Ben Darke
Founder of PensionHelper. I write and editorially review every guide on this site.
About me
I founded PensionHelper after being frustrated by how hard it was to get good, jargon-free UK pension advice for ordinary savers. The site now publishes 720+ original UK pension guides covering every situation — from starting a pension in your 20s to retiring abroad in your 60s — and matches visitors with FCA-regulated independent advisers when they need specialist help.
Every guide on this site is written or reviewed by me. I'm not an FCA-regulated adviser — that's why we partner with qualified advisers to handle the actual advice. What we do here is guidance: explaining the rules, the options, and the trade-offs in plain English.
Areas I write about
- UK pension rules and tax relief
- Defined benefit transfers and CETVs
- SIPPs, workplace pensions, and personal pensions
- Annuities and pension drawdown
- State Pension, triple lock, and pension age changes
- Retirement abroad and international tax
- Pension consolidation and finding lost pots
Editorial approach
Every guide on this site follows the same process: we draft using current HMRC and gov.uk sources, we check all figures against the latest tax-year thresholds (2026/27), and we flag anything that requires regulated advice. Where a reader's situation is specific, we match them with an FCA-regulated adviser rather than trying to answer through content alone.
